I remember browsing this some time back, I have a serious love/hate relationship with the whole transformation genre (you can blame George Lucas for that; I do) so whether I like or despise a TF-themed narrative is decided completely on a case-by-case basis.

So this one? After seeing some of the pages in vol.5 of the comic, it's clear just how much your comic style's improved between here and there. I didn't care much for the slow opening, or the sketch style of these early pages, but once the actual plot started to develop, that raised my curiosity a bit. Just like how a book becomes more interesting the more you read through it. I've read maybe ONE printed novel in the past . . . five or so years, that one being because the premise had an odd appeal (or 'hook';) in my opinion -- and I finished it within nearly a week.

I have my own novels, my own story ideas of course, swimming around upstairs with only a handful ever put down on paper (in prose or illustrated forms alike) and only ONE ever written out to completion of any sort (that one being for Nanowrimo 2007), but for whatever reason, every one of my novel ideas seem to involve some form of 'transforamtion' element themselves.

And Michelle's disposition here really strikes a chord with one such tale swimming around my head -- protagonist who is apparently human, only to discover the hard way (via some magical artifact) that they're not, which turns their personal world upside-down. Unwillingly turned into some kind of creature, not out of malice/curse/ any kind of etc. outside will but simply because that happens to be their very nature and they didn't know it yet. Perhaps that's why I started liking this one, because I've devised similar story premises myself.

I also remember browsing parts of vol.2 where Jim explains the whole prospect, but I'll save those comments for when (a.k.a. where) they are due.

Thank you very much for your thoughtful comment, I'm glad you like my comic. I have a love/hate relationship with most transformation/anthro type things as well, mostly because the internet has managed to fetishize it to such a state where it's hard to make a serious attempt at such a story without people thinking you're doing it for some weird creepy reason. One of my goals with this comic is to try to break that stereotype. :)

'fetishize' . . . I agree wholeheartedly. That's certainly a reason to dislike a lot of TF material, and while it's usually not worth commenting to a person when you dislike it (because it usually earns the "don't like it, don't view it" resposne), it's definitely one of those where I would "shoot the messenger" so to speak.

I know we've only been friends for like, two years, but damn it is exciting to finally see you get the actual ball rolling on Skin Deep. It's probably way more awesome for you 'cause you have six years of build up to this moment, but I'm all "WHOO YEAH TWO YEARS FINALLY IT'S ABOUT TIME."

Michelle is so rad. I know you're always "BLAH MICHELLE WHATEVER DUMB ANATOMY" but she's one of my favourites. The tail is awesome. The textures are awesome. This is awesome.

Well you've known me during the time where I went from "God Michelle sucks so much" to "Y'know she's not half bad anymore." PROGRESS.

SERIOUSLY MAN I AM EXCITED.

It's about time, missy! You've kept us all waiting with bated breath, so now I guess we can finally start finding out what's been on your mind this whole time, huh?

I must say, you have caught my attention...

Something kinda sad about,
the way that things have come to be.
Desensitized to everything.
What became of subtlety?

How can it mean anything to me,
if I really don't feel a thing at all?

I'll, keep, digging
till I, feel, something.
:iconnarcoticdream:
